Getting Married on Nusa Lembongan: Weddings, Proposals & Celebrations

A wedding on Nusa Lembongan is never just a day. It is a celebration that unfolds over several days — your closest people gathered on a small island, thirty minutes from Bali by fast boat and a world away in feel, sharing one adventure together. The island's size is its superpower: nobody scatters, everybody is present, and by the time the big day arrives, your guests are as in love with the place as you are.

Couples who marry here tell us the same thing afterwards: the wedding became the introduction. Friends and family who came for the weekend keep coming back for years. Here is how a Lembongan wedding works — and how the Aqua Nusa group of venues fits around every part of it.

The Shape of an Island Wedding Weekend

The best Lembongan weddings follow a natural four-part rhythm: welcome sunset drinks a night or two before, then the ceremony, then the reception, and — because nobody sensible gets on a boat the morning after a wedding — a recovery pool party the next day. With three venues in the family, each part has a natural home.

The Welcome Party: Sunset Drinks at Ohana's or a Long Table at Nisi

Ohana's is hands-down the island's premier sunset spot, which makes it the natural setting for welcome drinks or a welcome dinner — typically one or two nights before the big day, even for couples holding their ceremony elsewhere. It sets the tone perfectly: guests meeting on the sand, cocktails at golden hour, everyone arriving on island time. And the format flexes to your budget — keep it informal with guests settling their own tabs, put a tab behind the bar, or host the whole evening. Many groups gather for sunset drinks then split into smaller dinners at their own pace.

Prefer a seated welcome or rehearsal dinner? Nisi – House of Mediterranean does long-table Mediterranean feasts beautifully — sharing plates, a wine list that spans the Med, and air-conditioned comfort in the heart of the village. It is a wonderful way to bring both families around one table before the day itself.

The Ceremony: Saying 'I Do' Over the Water

An honest note on how we work: Ohana's itself does not host wedding ceremonies — our beachfront resort and beach club are built for everything around the big moment. For the ceremony itself, one of our favourite recommendations is right in the family: Bar Riva, perched over the water in the heart of Jungut Batu, makes an unforgettable setting for vows — sea beneath you, sky turning gold, Amalfi Coast romance in the air. With three levels available for private hire, it hosts everything from an intimate waterside ceremony to a full celebration. Our team is happy to talk through ceremony options across the island and recommend the setting that fits your vision.

The Reception: Ohana's Rooftop, Up to 150 Guests

This is where Ohana's shines. Wedding receptions are held on our rooftop bar overlooking the beach club — the only elevated beachfront location on the island's main sunset beach, with receptions for up to 150 guests (and the downstairs beach club available for larger celebrations). The venue is effortlessly elegant: natural beauty, beachfront infinity pool below, and the island's best sunsets doing the decorating for you, right through the golden window around six to seven o'clock.

The practical detail couples love most: the rooftop has an articulating roof we open or close to suit the conditions. Extra shade at midday, rain protection if the sky misbehaves, or — on the perfect night we all hope for — open to the stars for dancing. It is all-weather peace of mind that very few island venues can offer, and it means nobody panics at the morning forecast.

Format is up to you: a seated four-course dinner or a cocktail-party style evening, with waiters at one per ten guests, DJ equipment and a professional sound system (speeches included) built into the venue hire, and beverage packages or bar tabs to suit. Exclusive use of the rooftop runs from noon until late on the day. Current venue hire, menu and beverage pricing is kept up to date on the wedding reception page.

The Recovery Pool Party

The day after the wedding belongs to the pool. A recovery party at the beach club is the perfect way to unwind and relive the night before — breakfast cocktails, a swim, and laid-back island vibes doing the healing. We reserve a space for your group, and the format is as flexible as the welcome drinks: casual pay-as-you-go, a tab behind the bar, or a fully hosted event with an exclusive space and a DJ or live music to keep it rolling. A lovely tradition we see often: friends or family hosting the recovery day as their gift to the newlyweds.

Private Functions Across All Three Venues

Between the three venues, the group covers every kind of wedding-week function. Ohana's takes the sunset welcome drinks, the rooftop reception and the recovery pool party. Bar Riva offers over-water ceremonies, aperitivo hours and after parties across its three private-hire levels — waterside deck, disco-ball lounge and rooftop. And Nisi hosts the seated moments: rehearsal dinners, family lunches and long Mediterranean welcome feasts. One conversation with our events team can coordinate all three, so your wedding week flows from venue to venue without a single logistics headache for you.

Where Everyone Stays: Up to 90 Guests, All Together

Here is where a Lembongan wedding gets genuinely special: your whole guest list can stay together. Ohana's offers 23 rooms across garden rooms, pool-view suites and a three-bedroom villa with private pool — around 50 guests at two per room, or up to 70 using the family capacity of the suites. Book out the resort and your group gets exclusive use of the resort pool and swim-up bar for the whole stay. Add the AQUA NUSA private villa collection just nearby — a favourite for parents and grandparents who appreciate their own pool, a quieter pace and breakfast at Bar Riva included — and the group can host up to 90 guests across the two properties, with everyone a short stroll from the celebration.

Different budgets in the group? No problem — the island has options at every level and we are happy to point guests toward nearby alternatives that suit, while keeping your core party under one roof.

Wedding Tips From the Team

First and most important: work with an experienced, Bali-based wedding planner. For ceremonies and receptions we host, this is a requirement rather than a suggestion — and it is genuinely for your benefit. Island weddings run on local knowledge: supplier contacts, shipping logistics, furniture and decoration hire, and Indonesia's strict working-visa rules for anyone providing services, from photographers to DJs to hair and make-up. We refer a selection of experienced planners we trust, and they are worth their weight in gold — they carry the stress so you can enjoy your own wedding.

Book early: peak dates go twelve months out, and the accommodation block is as important to secure as the venue. Encourage guests to stay at least four days — arriving two days before and leaving at least one day after — so travel stress never touches the big day and the recovery party is a proper finale. Time your reception around the sunset window of six to seven o'clock; it is the show your guests will remember. And leave the weather worries to the rooftop's articulating roof — it has every forecast covered.

Finally, think of the budget in three layers: the venue side (hire, food and beverage packages), the planner-managed side (celebrant, photography, flowers, hair and make-up, entertainment, decorations), and the travel side (accommodation, boats and activities for your guests). Your planner will bring it together — and touches like a fireworks display over the water can even be arranged with enough notice.

When to Book Your Island Wedding

The dry season, April to October, is the safe bet for outdoor celebrations, and September and October are the months wedding planners quietly favour — peak-season reliability, softer golden light and enough space that a beachfront celebration feels intimate rather than observed. For the full seasonal picture, see our month-by-month guide. Not planning a full wedding? Our honeymoon guide covers proposals, vow renewals and the smaller romantic moments the island does so well.
